An important aspect of Paradigm's work is partnering with local Haitian run organizations that are making an impact in their local communities. One of our founders, Holly, met Franceli and Julie Joseph on a trip in 2017 and fell in love with this couple's tireless work and commitment they have to their country and the beautiful children they care for at their orphanage. Paradigm donates 10% of our profits to Redeemer's Child and provides retreat guests with the opportunity to visit the orphanage.

About Redeemer's Child:

Franceli and Julie Joseph are a Haitian couple who founded Redeemer's Child orphanage in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti in 2007. Julie was raised in a wealthy family in Port-au-Prince, while Franceli came from much humbler beginnings in the northern part of the country, Cap Haitien. From a young age, Julie struggled with injustice and wondered why she was so fortunate while so many other children in Port-au-Prince were not. She could often be found giving away her lunches and spare clothing to children begging on the streets. Franceli moved to Port-au-Prince around the age of 11 and the two met in the coming years at their local church during choir practice. After marrying, Julie decided that it was time to quit her job at a bank and pour their lives into getting kids off the streets and giving them a home and an education. They started in a small apartment in downtown Port-au-Prince that later expanded to a larger apartment, until they outgrew that space and were granted money to build outside the city, which is where the orphanage is currently located. At the time of the earthquake in January 2010, they were caring for 22 children. The orphanage walls all crumbled, but luckily no one was hurt. They lived on the streets with the 22 children and two of their biological children for a period of time following the earthquake as their home and orphanage were completely destroyed. They are currently caring for 50 children ranging in ages from 3-19. In recent years, Redeemer's Child has expanded their work to serve those children aging out of the orphanage to ensure that they receive the support they need until they are ready to begin working. This is known as the transition house and is located in Port-au-Prince. They continue to support the older children and teach them important life skills, such as, budgeting, cooking, cleaning, etc. as they complete high school and go on to a trade school or college. The vision the Joseph's have for their kids is that they would be well-educated and go on to be future Haitian leaders and contributors to their local community and economy. They hope to increase the number of children they support to 100. Currently, they are looking for child sponsors for their orphaned children, which supports their living conditions, food every day, schooling, medical care, etc. At this point, only 50% of the kids are sponsored, so they make the rest up in donations and people staying at their guest house in Port-au-Prince.

In addition to their work at their orphanage, Franceli helps organize community food drops where clean water and food are distributed to families. They serve hundreds of people at these events and scale them even larger for Christmas and Easter holidays. Redeemer's Child is currently working on completing an on-site school that will serve their children and other kids in the community through 8th grade. The children are attending the school now, but it will double in size in the next 6-12 months.
